BAYSTATE MEDICAL CENTER
Fifteen years in the making, Baystate Medical Center fulfilled a promise to transform health care in a way that enriches the lives of the people in our communities with the completion of a 641,000 square-foot new clinical facility, built with environmentally friendly building techniques that affirm the hospital’s commitment to sustainable health care. The $296 million project features ample natural lighting, a five-floor lightwell, the MassMutual Wing, D’Amour Family Healing Garden, a state-of-the-art heart and vascular center and a new emergency and trauma center.
Davis Family Heart & Vascular Center/D’Amour Family Healing Garden
The Davis Family Heart & Vascular Center opened inside the MassMutual Wing in March 2012, providing a new home for much of Baystate Health’s award-winning Heart & Vascular Program. New patient care spaces include six operating and procedure rooms; a 20-room Cardiovascular Assessment, Recovery, Evaluation (CARE) Unit; three floors (96 rooms) of private medical-surgical beds; and 30 heart and vascular critical care and progressive care rooms. Emergency & Trauma Center
At 75,000 square feet, Baystate Medical Center’s new Emergency & Trauma Center is nearly four times the size of the former emergency department, offering more patient privacy and comfort. Located along Springfield Street, the region’s only level 1 Trauma Center features 94 private rooms; an in-house radiology and imaging center for more efficiency; eight specially designed behavioral health rooms; and a separate pediatric area for children and their families, the Sadowsky Family Pediatric Emergency Department. Baystate Children’s Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
Baystate Children’s Hospital completed construction of a new, larger Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in 2012, welcoming patients in early January 2013. The unit features seven private rooms, offering increased privacy and comfort for patients and families, including parent sleep space and a more spacious family lounge. More than 80 percent of the PICU renovation, featuring vivid colors, and organic shapes, was funded by philanthropic efforts. Four pediatric intercare beds remain in the former Daly 4A PICU, which will be renovated in the spring of 2013 to a six-bed Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit.
Baystate Medical Center Intensive Care and Neuroscience Services
Baystate Medical Center expansion continued in May 2012 with the Intensive Care Unit expanding to include a 16-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit and a 16-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit, a gain of eight critical care beds. At the same time, a five-bed Neuroscience Observation Room expanded into a nine-bed Neuroscience Intermediate Unit, located in the former Progressive Care Unit on Daly 5B.
BAYSTATE FRANKLIN MEDICAL CENTER
48 Sanderson Street
Baystate Franklin Medical Center completed renovations at 48 Sanderson Street in 2012 for a new Multi-Specialty Medical Practice – Baystate Heart and Vascular Service, Baystate Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Greenfield Neurology. The practice began welcoming patients and referrals in February 2013.
BAYSTATE MARY LANE HOSPITAL
Outpatient Cancer Services at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital
The Baystate Regional Cancer Program at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital expanded and relocated its outpatient cancer care and infusion services in November 2012. The peaceful, healing environment provides patients with personalized, responsive quality care, close to home and with ready access to the experts at Springfield’s D’Amour Center for Cancer Care.
Baystate Mary Lane Hospital Renovations
In an effort to address patient needs and patient flow, Baystate Mary Lane Hospital renovated space outside the Gift Shop for a new waiting area for Baystate Mary Lane Hospital Outpatient Specialty Care. To make the area more conducive to patient privacy, the Pharmacy moved from the basement to the Wetherby Wing, and the Emergency Department triage area was updated.
Baystate Breast & Wellness Center
Opened in September 2012, the Baystate Breast & Wellness Center is a new joint venture between Radiology & Imaging (R & I) and Baystate Medical Center. Designed with input from patients and families, the center, located at 100 Wason Avenue in Springfield, provides the best in comfort, care and convenience. Services include digital mammography, bone density testing, women’s ultrasound, and breast biopsies. Baystate’s Comprehensive Breast Center (CBC) at 3400 Main Street, moved into the center in early 2013.
Baystate Orthopedic Surgery Center
The Baystate Orthopedic Surgery Center at 50 Wason Avenue in Springfield opened in April 2012, replacing the Carew Street outpatient surgery center. At 32,000 square feet, the new surgery center is more than triple the size of the 9,700 square foot former location. Staffed by the Baystate Health care team, the surgery center is used exclusively by New England Orthopedic Surgeons (NEOS) for outpatient orthopedic surgery.
