Baystate Health supports our local communities in many ways. Our commitment to caring for uninsured and underinsured people means we often absorb the cost of that care. In 2012, Baystate Health provided unreimbursed care to our patients at a cost of more than $98 million.
As we develop new facilities, we’ve created economic opportunities by contracting with local, minority- and women-owned businesses. We sponsored community events that raised funds and awareness as well as fostered safer and healthier neighborhoods.
Our employees came together to rally around local children and families in 2012. Employees donated more than 2,500 new toys for “In the Spirit of Giving” Community Toy Drive, adopted 160 local classrooms by donating bins filled with essential supplies, and distributed 1,200 student backpacks filled with school supplies.
Through workplace fundraisers, employees donated $444,000 to support local United Way organizations.
We are committed to the communities we serve. See Highlights for more ways in which Baystate Health lived out our charitable mission in 2012.
