Since starting my business 36 years ago, I’ve served on a number of boards in our region, because I wanted to give back to my community in meaningful ways. When I was asked to chair Baystate Health Foundation’s Board of Trustees, I embraced the opportunity to work with an organization that truly gives back to the community in a variety of ways. Listening and learning from patients, families, employees, donors and community members, is a hallmark of Baystate Health’s impressive leadership, and I am pleased and proud to add my voice as we inspire a new culture of philanthropy.
Working together with health system leaders, physicians, employees and the community at large, we’re learning what their health care priorities are and how best the foundation can support these needs. We’re also taking proactive steps to ensure donors know where and how they’ll be making a difference. We’ve already seen how successful this best practice can be with the Campaign for Baystate Medical Center in support of the Baystate Medical Center expansion. When people learned how valuable a community partner Baystate Health is, how critical the health system is to the economic vitality of the region, and why the health system is one of the most credible voices on health care issues, they engaged in ways we had never seen before. When they learned their dollars could be directed to a new Emergency Department, their support and overwhelming cries for quick attention accelerated plans to build. Channeling positive feedback and energy like this will propel and shape the foundation’s future, and I look forward to inviting people to begin their own personal and meaningful philanthropic journeys.
I also look forward to reaching out and helping others understand the values and benefits for everyone in our community by giving to Baystate Health. Helping me fulfill this promise are a new team of experienced community leaders who recognize and represent the many and diverse communities we serve. Together, we are building upon our strong and meaningful donor relationships, and engaging people in the philanthropic process through events, outreach and a shared vision to improve the health and wellbeing of our region. Please “Walk with us and Invest in the Promise.”
